“I have always been very proud to serve such a worthwhile organization – making a difference and the promise of a lasting impact in the world of birds is something we can all be proud of.” – Kris Dobney
In the bustling world of bird conservation, there are individuals like Kris Dobney who quietly make a big impact. As Kris marks her 20th anniversary with Birds Canada, it’s a moment to reflect on her journey—a journey filled with dedication, hard work, and a love for birds.
Kris is the kind of person you want on your team. As the Donor Relations Coordinator, she’s the friendly voice you hear when you call in to give or have questions about your support. Processing thousands of donations each year, she’s instrumental in our fundraising efforts, ensuring every dollar goes where it’s intended.
Kris is also the brains behind the annual Birds Canada Birdathon, a fundraiser that raises $200,000 annually and gets hundreds of Canadians involved in bird conservation. It’s a testament to her passion and organizational skills.
What’s remarkable about Kris is her down-to-earth nature. She’s always ready to lend a hand, tackle any task, and approach challenges with a practical, can-do attitude.
During her spare time, Kris makes the best of the rural property she is fixing up with her husband. It is a haven for birds, with Evening Grosbeaks making fast work of the pounds of sunflower seeds.
When asked about her favorite bird, she fondly remembers observing the Tree Swallows that congregate in Long Point.
As we celebrate Kris’s two decades with Birds Canada, we honour how she has quietly made a difference, day in and day out. While we hope Kris sticks around for many more years, we also support her dream of retiring to a houseboat in the UK—a well-earned break for someone who’s given so much to bird conservation.
Here’s to 20 years of hard work, laughter, and making a difference—one bird at a time. Cheers, Kris!
