The Great Canadian Birdathon is a fantastic way to raise the funds needed to advance bird research, awareness, and conservation. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Great Canadian Birdathon, which is normally held in May each year, has been extended through to the end of the year allowing participants to choose a time that best suits their situation.

As a young birder growing up in the 90s in Peterborough, Ontario, I was always enamoured with fall. There was just something about those cool crisp nights, the amazing colours on display in the forests, and the lakes filled with waterfowl.

In late August, many of Canada’s breeding migratory birds are starting their migration south. But Long-billed Curlews have completed their journey to their non-breeding grounds weeks ago.
