On September 10, Bird Studies Canada will celebrate the start of the 19th season of our British Columbia Coastal Waterbird Survey. This long-term Citizen Science monitoring program involves counting ducks, loons, grebes, gulls, and other waterbirds on the second Sunday of each month throughout the winter.
Bird Studies Canada is taking action to preserve one of Canada’s most important – and most threatened – places for biodiversity. A new initiative will engage with local communities in conserving British Columbia’s Fraser River Estuary Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA).
Results from the first-ever complete survey of birds across the whole province of British Columbia have just been released, and are now available for free online. The British Columbia Breeding Bird Atlas is already helping to identify and protect critical habitats for Species at Risk, and improve conditions for birds on industrial lands.
