Why Birds Matter

Whether it’s a Black-capped Chickadee calling in a city park, an Osprey splashing into a river, or a Common Loon on a quiet northern lake, birds are all around us. They spark moments of joy, curiosity, and wonder. Birds encourage us to slow down, notice the world around us, and find joy in nature. Every encounter is an invitation to explore, learn, and wonder.

For nature and people alike, birds are vital. Their lives support the health of ecosystems. Their beauty, songs, diversity, and behaviours have connected people to the rhythms of nature for a millennia. And the world is brighter, healthier and more joyful when they’re thriving.

Birds Canada exists to protect the birds we love — which allows us to protect all of nature. A world where birds are thriving in healthy habitats is a world where native flora and fauna is flourishing too; a world where people can see, feel, and experience the beauty of nature in balance.

By focusing on birds, we’re protecting what’s vital for the health of people and nature.
